- The flow of application procedure for the Master Thesis Defense
1. The master student has to complete one year of study, cover all the courses and credits required by the department, and completed the first draft of their Thesis. They must apply for the thesis defense according to the procedures prescribed by the department.
2. The master student who applies for the thesis defense must submit their application one month before the examination. The application form should be submitted to the research team for the later phase of the process after being approved by the supervisor and the department chair.
3. The master's degree examination is held in principle according to the academic calendar. In special cases, if the extension is required, it should be approved by the chair of the department and limited to the day before the end of the semester.
4. The master's degree examination committee consists of three to five members, of which more than one-third of the external committee members should be reported and appointed by the department chair.
5. The members of the master's degree examination shall have one of the following qualifications, in addition to specialized research on the subject, creation, performance or technical report of the dissertation proposed by the master students:
a. Serve as a full professor or associate professor.
b. Academician of the Academia Sinica or former researcher and associate researcher of the Academia Sinica.
c. Hold a Ph.D. and has academic achievements.
d. It is rare or only for the special subject and has academic or professional achievements.
The criteria for determining qualifications for employment in paragraphs 3 and 4 of the preceding paragraphs shall be determined by the department meeting.
6. Degree examinations should be attended by more than two-thirds of the members, yet at least three members should be present; among the members present, more than one-third of the members outside the university must participate in the examination. Adjunct professors at our university may be external members. Examination committee members should be present in person and not entrust others to represent them.
7. The student who fails the degree test and has not yet completed their studies can apply for re-examination once in the next semester or the next academic year.
8. The student who has passed the degree examination should go through the formalities of leaving university in the first semester no later than February 10, and the second semester by August 15.
